Mavericks Drop Two at NITT

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team hosted the National Invitational Tennis Tournament on Saturday, falling by identical scores of 7-0 to fellow Division I reclassifying programs Abilene Christian and Grand Canyon at Koch Family Tennis Center. The day also marked the final match in the careers of two UNO seniors, All-Summit honoree Alex Tran and Lindsay Weideman.

MATCH 1 – ABILENE CHRISTIAN 7, OMAHA 0
Omaha struggled to gain momentum in the morning match, falling to Abilene Christian, 7-0. At No. 1 doubles, Tran and sophomore Tiffany Hottman lost to Kaysie Hermsdorf and Micah Hermsdorf, 8-5. At the No. 2 position, freshmen Hylan Miller and Kenzie Hill fell to Brittney Reed and Erin Walker, 8-4. The No. 3 spot saw sophomore Molly Matricardi and junior Jacqueline Baude fall to Emily Conrad and Nada Marjanovic, 8-1.   In singles play, the Mavs continued to face a steep challenge from ACU, winning games in both sets just twice. At No. 4, Weideman lost to Marjanovic, 6-2, 6-2, and Baude fell to Conrad, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.

MATCH 2 – GRAND CANYON 7, OMAHA 0
In the second match of the day, the Mavericks faced another tough competitor with Grand Canyon, which took the contest, 7-0. During doubles play, UNO dropped all three matches and the doubles point. At. No. 1, Tran and Hottman lost to Priscilla Annoual, 8-3. The No. 2 spot saw Miller and Hill fall to Janaki Gunuganti and Frederique Van de Velde, 8-4. Matricardi and Baude rounded out the doubles pairings and were defeated by Silvia Tumova and Alexandra Petrzalkov, 8-2, at No. 3.  At No. 1 singles, Tran fell to Annoual, 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 singles saw Matricardi lose to Gunuganti, 6-2, 6-2, while Weideman was defeated by Van de Velde, 6-0, 6-3.

The NITT marked the end of UNO's 2014 season, and the Mavericks finish the season with a record of 7-14 (3-3 Summit League).
