OMAHA, Neb. - IUPUI got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 77-45 win over the Omaha women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars (16-6, 6-1 Summit) forced the Mavs into a season-high 24 turnovers and bolted to a 22-2 lead out of the gate to take control. The Mavs (9-12, 1-6 Summit) were never able to get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Nevena Markovic had a game-high 12 points to lead IUPUI. Eight Jaguars scored at least six points in the game. The Mavs were led by
Taijhe Kelly's eight points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
Mikaela Shaw had eight points and five boards.
After falling behind 22-2 in the first 5:38, Omaha gathered its composure and cut the lead to 26-13 on a jumper by
Lanese Bough at the 10:24 mark. However, the Jaguars closed the first half on a 22-6 run to take a 48-19 lead into the break. IUPUI shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) in the first half, while the Mavs struggled to an 0-for-7 performance from 3-point range in the first half.
The Mavs ended up missing their first 13 attempts from 3-point range until
Felicia Anderson finally connected with 5:48 left in the game. For the game, Omaha shot just 28.9 percent (13-of-45) from the field and 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from long distance.
IUPUI outrebounded UNO 43-27 and dominated the paint, 38-12. The Jaguars also scored 32 points off of the Mavs' 24 turnovers and had a 12-0 edge in fastbreak points.
Omaha begins the second half of the Summit League schedule on Thursday at Western Illinois at 7 p.m.
