Cedar Falls, Iowa – Sami Spenner broke her own school record in the pentathlon for the third time in two seasons at the Jack Jennett Invitational on Friday afternoon. Spenner was flawless, winning all individual events including breaking her own school record in the long jump on her way to setting new personal records in four of the five events.

Spenner finished the event with 4,406 points, beating her previous record of 4,271 set at last year's USA Track and Field Indoor Championship. Although ineligible to compete in NCAA Indoor Championships due to UNO's four-year reclassifying period, Spenner's mark ranks first in the nation and third in the world.

The senior out of Columbus, Neb. also set a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 20-09, surpassing her old mark of 20-05 ¼. Spenner also set new PR's in the high jump with a jump of 5-08, shot put with a throw of 41-04 ¼, and 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.62. Spenner ranks in the top five in the Summit League in four of the five events she competed in on Friday while also ranking in the top 12 in the Summit League in shot put.

In other events run on the first day of the meet, Kathie-Lee Laidley won the long jump with a leap of 19-03 ½, while teammates Denneil Shaw (3), Payton Horacek (5), Nicole Liske (7) all finished in the top eight.   

Other notable finishes by Maverick athletes included: Amanda Alexander setting a new PR in the shot put with a throw of 32-07, finishing sixth; and Maddie Diggs setting a new PR in the long jump with a leap of 15-07.

The Mavericks will finish competition at the event on Saturday at 10 a.m.
