The Game
Omaha hits the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference games. The Mavs will open the road trip in Charleston, Ill. on Friday, Dec. 5 against Eastern Illinois. Tip-off at Lantz Arena is set for 6 p.m. UNO wraps up the road trip on Sunday, Dec. 7 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wis. Sunday afternoon's game will be carried on ESPN3.
The Teams
Omaha (3-3, 0-0 Summit League) defeated Peru State, 68-54, on Monday evening at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Eastern Illinois (2-4, 0-0 OVC) lost to Loyola-Chicago, 63-52, on Saturday in Chicago, Ill.
Milwaukee (2-4, 0-0 Horizon League) defeated Kansas City, 72-60, on Tuesday night in Kansas City, Mo.
Scouting the Mavericks
Omaha wrapped up a four game home stand on Monday evening. The Mavericks feature two players who score in double digits. UNO is led by sophomore guard Mikaela Shaw who is averaging a double-double this season. Shaw leads the team in points per game (14.7) and rebounds per game (11.5). She has had three double-double performances this season. Junior guard Brianna Bogard is second on the team in points per game (10.8). Bogard is 21-for-32 from the free throw line this season. Freshman Remy Davenport averages 9.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game this season. Davenport is 14-of-42 (33.3 percent) from long distance this season. Lanese Bough, a senior guard, leads the team with 28 assists and 17 steals. She also is 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from the charity stripe.
The Mavericks are shooting 40.7 percent from the field (145-of-356) and average 42.8 rebounds per game. The Mavs are holding their opponents to 32.8 percent from the field (119-of-363). Omaha holds a 42.8-40.5 rebounding advantage over their opponents this season.
Scouting Eastern Illinois
Eastern Illinois enters the game with a 2-4 overall record. Sabina Oroszova leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding. The senior averages 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds and has had a double-double in three games this season. Oroszova also is tied for the team lead in blocks (9) and steals (10). Arnisha Thomas averages 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while Erica Brown chips in 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds.
As a team, Eastern Illinois shoots 37.0 percent (112-of-303) from the field and 23.8 percent (15-of-63) from beyond the three point arc. EIU shoots 64.2 percent (79-of-123) from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 44.8 percent (150-of-335) from the floor and 41.9 percent (31-of74) from distance against EIU. The Panthers are being outrebounded by their opponents 38.3-32.8 so far this season.
Scouting Milwaukee
Milwaukee enters the game with a 2-4 record on the season. Ashley Green leads the Panthers in scoring (25.5) and rebounding (8.3). Green has led the team in scoring every game this season and has been the top rebounder in four games. She has shot an impressive 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from beyond the 3-point line and is 82.4 percent (28-of-34) from the charity stripe. Jalees Armstrong adds 9.7 points and 5.2 assists per game.
Milwaukee has been outrebounded by their opponents 43.0-34.5 so far this season. As a team, the Panthers shoot 39.1 percent (147-of-376) from the field and 34.3 percent (46-of-134) from long distance. Opponents are shooting 42.1 percent (152-of-361) from the field this season against UWM.
The Series
Omaha leads the all-time series with Eastern Illinois, 2-0. The last meeting between the two programs came 34 years ago in Omaha. The Mavs defeated EIU, 71-58, on Nov. 29, 1980.
Omaha trails the all-time series with Milwaukee, 1-0. The two teams met last season in Omaha with Milwaukee leaving Sapp Fieldhouse with a 68-48 victory. Ericka House was the only Maverick to reach double figures with 18 points. Taijhe Kelly had nine points, 11 rebounds - eight on the offensive glass - and five blocked shots.
