OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha junior defender Hannah Wampler has been named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year. Joining Wampler in all-conference honors is junior forward Chelsi Rohloff and freshman midfielder Lydia Holtmann. Rohloff earned first-team all-Summit League accolades, while Holtmann was placed on the all-Freshman Team.
Hannah Wampler earned first-team all-conference honors, as well as being named the Defensive Player of the Year. She becomes the first Omaha player to earn one of the league's top individual awards. This season, Wampler anchored a defensive backline that surrendered just nine league goals and had three Summit League shutouts. The junior collected four goals this season, two converted via penalty kick, for eight points. Wampler earns back-to-back all-league honors after earning a second team nod last season.
“This is a great honor for Hannah and for our program,” said Omaha head coach Don Klosterman. “Hannah is such a tough 1v1 defender, but her ability to attack from the back makes her so dangerous to opposing teams that they have to worry about defending her all the time.”
Chelsi Rohloff led Omaha with 10 goals and 24 points this season. She also led the Summit League in both categories.
“This is a well-deserved award for Chelsi,” commented head coach Don Klosterman. “I think that she is maybe the most dangerous forward in the league. She plays with so much energy that she causes big problems for defenders and the most impressive thing about Chelsi is that she scored when it counted.”
Freshman Lydia Holtmann appeared in all 19 games with seven starts this season for Omaha. Holtmann scored one goal and had three assists for five points this season.
“It was great to see that Lydia made a strong impression on the other coaches in the league,” said Klosterman. “She has a great ability to get forward from the midfield.”
Omaha finished the season with a 5-12-2 overall record and went 3-3-2 in Summit League play.
