Panthers Stop Mavericks' Streak

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's basketball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end on Sunday with a 68-48 loss to Milwaukee at the Sapp Fieldhouse.

The loss was the Mavericks' first at home this season in seven games and dropped them to 8-6 overall heading into conference play. Milwaukee improved to 4-9 overall.

Ericka House was the only Maverick to reach double figures with 18 points. Taijhe Kelly had nine points, 11 rebounds - eight on the offensive glass - and five blocked shots. The Mavs committed a season-high 23 turnovers, which Milwaukee turned into a 16-5 edge in points off turnovers.

The Mavericks got off to a solid start, building a 21-10 lead with 7:35 left in the first half. House had the Mavs' first 10 points of the game on 4-of-4 shooting with two 3-pointers, and Mikaela Shaw had back-to-back buckets to give UNO an early 14-7 lead. After a 3-pointer by Milwaukee's Angela Rodriguez made it 16-10, baskets by Kelly and Madi Robson around a free throw by House gave the Mavs the 21-10 advantage.

But the Panthers closed the half on a 20-9 run to even the score at 30-30 at the break, then continued their run with seven straight points to open the second half for a 37-30 lead with 15:02 left. The Mavs scored their first points of the second half with 14:50 left on a layup by Felicia Anderson and later cut the Milwaukee lead to two, 39-37, on an Anderson 3-pointer with 12:55 to go.

But the Panthers went on an 11-2 run over the next 5:32 to grab a 50-39 lead with 7:12 remaining. The Mavs couldn't get within single digits again, as Milwaukee extended the lead in the closing minutes.

Rodriguez had a game-high 19 points and six assists for Milwaukee. Ashley Green had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while Avyanna Young had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
