OMAHA, Neb. - Behind 15 3-pointers, Fort Wayne notched an 81-71 win over the Omaha women's basketball team at the Sapp Fieldhouse on Thursday.
The Mastodons improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in Summit League play, while the Mavs dropped to 9-11 and 1-5 in league action.
Ericka House had a team-high 22 points.
Sami Pawlak had 11 points and seven rebounds in her first career start.
Felicia Anderson also had 11 points and hit 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
The Mavs held the Summit League's leading scorer, Amanda Hyde, to just two points in the first half, but she finished with 14. Haley Seibert, however, tallied 32 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Seibert shot 7-of-12 from 3-point range, matching her career high, and hit 7-of-8 free throws. She led four Mastodons in double figures.
IPFW hit 15-of-31 (48.4 percent) from 3-point range and 26-of-58 (44.8 percent) overall. Its 15 treys were the most by a UNO opponent this season and only the second time a Maverick foe has reached double digits. UNO connected on 49.1 percent (26-of-53) overall and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from long distance.
The Mavs fell down 24-17 midway through the first half but battled back with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 24-24. The Mavs took a 38-34 lead on a three-point play by House and ended the half even at 39-39.
Fort Wayne gained separation from a 44-43 second-half advantage with an 8-0 run to grab a 52-43 lead after an old-fashioned three-point play by Seibert. Hyde finally started to get free and hit back-to-back 3-pointers for a 60-50 IPFW lead. But the Mavs clawed back in with two baskets by House and a free throw by
Madi Robson to cut the lead in half, 60-55.
But the Mastodons built a 71-60 lead after an 11-5 spurt, then extended it to 76-62 with a 3 by Ariana Simmons at the 3:47 mark.
The Mavs posted a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint, but IPFW scored 30 points off of 15 Maverick turnovers.
The Mavs are back at the Sapp Fieldhouse on Saturday to host IUPUI at 2 p.m.
