OMAHA, Neb.- The Omaha women's tennis team opened the 2014 season on Thursday, falling 4-3 to Southeast Missouri State at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center. UNO is now 0-1 (0-0 Summit League), while the Redhawks improve to 1-0 (0-0 Ohio Valley).

The Mavericks started the day off strong, winning the doubles point with the help of wins by junior Jacqueline Baude and senior Alex Tran at No. 1, 7-6 (7-2), and sophomore Tiffany Hottman and sophomore Molly Matricardi at No. 3, 6-1.

UNO continued its run in singles play, starting with a win at No. 1 singles as Tran defeated Valeriia Kashina 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 , Matricardi followed up her doubles win with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 singles decision over Valeriia Nagovitcina. UNO dropped its four remaining singles matches for the day, falling 4-3 to SEMO.

Omaha returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24, traveling to Iowa State. The match is slated for a Noon start in Ames, Iowa.
