Mavs and Montana Play to Wild 3-3 Draw

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's soccer team and Montana combined for three goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, and neither team scored in overtime, resulting in a 3-3 draw at the UNO Soccer Field Friday night.

The Mavericks moved to 2-4-1 after their first overtime game of the season. Montana's third tie of the season gave the defending Big Sky regular-season champion a 2-2-3 overall record.

The game started off wacky, as UNO appeared to have a goal in the second minute of the game when a corner kick was headed in by Monica Bosiljevac. But the goal was disallowed because the Mavs were ruled offsides.

Montana then struck first in the ninth minute. India Watne curled in a shot from 20 yards out on the right side after a short corner kick.

But the Mavericks tied it up in the 16th minute when a cross from Chelsi Rohloff found its way to the back post where Melanie McCormick tapped it in to an open net.

UNO then took the lead in the 22nd minute when Bosiljevac played a long ball to Rohloff on the left side. Rohloff dribbled into the box and beat Montana goalie Kendra McMillen to the right corner for the 2-1 lead.

The Grizzlies came close to tying the match late in the second half, but the Mavs got two great bounces when Montana sent back-to-back shots off the post.

It took until the 80th minute for Montana to get the equalizer. Tyler Adair scored on a goal-mouth scramble after a corner kick to tie the game at 2-2. Just 2:32 later, Akins got free down the right side and scored over Meaghan Clark's head for a 3-2 Grizzlies lead.

But the Mavs didn't stay down for long though. Bosiljevac played in a corner kick that settled at the feet of Rohloff from outside the 18-yard box. Rohloff's low shot was picked off in the center of the box by a wide-open McCormick. She turned and fired to the right corner to tie the game at 3-3. It was her team-high fourth goal of the season.

The game ended with Clark making a leaping save to tip a shot over the bar as the buzzer sounded. Montana had a 26-8 shot advantage but just a 13-7 margin in shots on goal.

The Mavs return to action next Friday at Creighton at 7 p.m.
