Mavs Suffer First League Loss in 3-0 Defeat at Kan

KANSAS CITY, Mo.
- The UNO softball team suffered its first league loss in a 3-0 defeat in the series finale at Kansas City on Sunday.

The Mavericks are now 27-5 overall and 5-1 in The Summit League. The Kangaroos improved to 12-16 and 1-2 in conference play.

UNO struggled offensively with just one hit off of Kangaroo ace Deanna Friese. Campbell Ditto had the only hit with a single to left field in the sixth inning. Friese went the distance, allowing five walks with nine strikeouts.

UMKC scored once in the bottom of the first and twice in the bottom of the third off of Dana Elsasser (16-5). Liz Broyles was 1-for-2 with an RBI double, and Emily Ott was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Brooke Parker was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the 'Roos.

Elsasser gave up two earned runs on four hits, two walks and one strikeout. Ashton Hughes pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings in relief.

The Mavericks had won five straight games entering Sunday's series finale.

UNO returns home this weekend to host IUPUI on Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m., and on Sunday at Noon. Saturday's games are Alumni Appreciation Day.
