OMAHA, Neb. –
The Omaha baseball team continued its weekend series against Creighton and played its first home game at Werner Park on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-4 to the Jays. The Mavericks moved to 5-14 (0-0 Summit League), while the Bluejays improved to 14-5 (2-1 MVC).

Mark Lukowski (3-1) entered the game with bases loaded and went on to earn the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk. Senior starter Cory Buckley (0-3) took the loss, surrendering three runs – one earned – on five hits while striking out four and walking one. CU's Nick Highberger collected his first save of the season with 2.2 innings of hitless ball.

Sophomore Alex Mortensen paced Omaha for the day, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. Senior Tyler Splichal finished 2-for-4 and scored once, while junior Brett Bass and redshirt freshman Clayton Taylor each drove in a run.

Creighton was led by Jake Peter's 4-for-5 performance with two runs scored and another driven in. Jerry Mitchell and Brennan Murphy both went 3-for-5, with Murphy scoring twice and Mitchell once with two RBI as well.

Creighton scored in six of nine innings, and Omaha was struck by four errors in the field.

The Jays took a 1-0 lead in the second, then stretched it to 3-0 by the top of the third. Omaha got on the board in the bottom of the frame, with Mortensen scoring on a passed ball to cut it to 3-1.

In the top of fourth, Creighton put up another pair of runs on two hits and a Maverick error. UNO countered in the second half of the inning, loading the bases when redshirt freshman Connor Messinger was hit by a pitch, Splichal singled to right and freshman Collin Leif drew a walk. Bass then drew a walk to score Messinger, and Splichal came in when Mortensen grounded into a double play to pull within two at 5-3.

CU tallied another run in the seventh, and Omaha rallied again in the bottom half. Mortensen drew a free pass with a walk, followed by Taylor's RBI double down the right field line to trim it to 6-4.

Creighton pulled away in the last two innings, however, plating four runs on two hits in the eighth and one run on two hits and an error in the ninth. The 11-4 final tally marked the Jays' second win in the weekend series before Sunday's finale.

Omaha returns to action on Sunday, March 31, facing Creighton at TD Ameritrade Park. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., and links to live stats and audio will be available on OMavs.com.
