OMAHA, Neb. - Six UNO women's basketball players finished in double figures, and the Mavericks rolled to an 84-56 victory over Air Force at the Sapp Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
Mikaela Shaw had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mavs (4-5).
Sami Pawlak had 13 points,
Victoria Trowbridge had 12, and
Ericka House,
Lanese Bough and
Madi Robson each had 10 points. Air Force (1-7) was led by Camille Thompson and Missy Byrd, each with 12 points.
The Mavericks shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field, including 60.0 percent in the first half. Air Force shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) but was 0-of-11 from 3-point range. The Mavs forced 23 turnovers by the Falcons and turned that into a 27-12 advantage in points off turnovers. UNO also held a 52-32 edge in points in the paint.
UNO jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 3:30 and never looked back. The Mavs went up 15-4 on a basket by Pawlak at the 14:39 mark and later extended the lead to 20 late in the half before claiming a 48-30 halftime lead.
The Mavericks built the lead to 31 with 4:33 to go, 77-46. UNO improved to 4-0 at the Sapp Fieldhouse this season with an average margin of victory of 31.8 points.
Like Shaw, Trowbridge had seven rebounds to help the Mavs to a 36-29 edge on the boards. Bough had six rebounds with her 10 points, while Pawlak had five to go with her 13 points. Robson had eight assists with seven of them coming in the first 13:49 of the game to jumpstart the Maverick offense.
Taijhe Kelly had eight points, and
Felicia Anderson had five.
The Mavs grabbed 12 steals on the night. Robson had four and Bough had three. Kelly and Trowbridge each blocked a pair of shots.
Omaha will look to add to its perfect home record against Eureka Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Red Devils are 4-1 overall and have had seven days of rest since their last game.
