Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's soccer team opened its new field and celebrated Senior Night on Friday at Caniglia Field. However, the IUPUI Jaguars claimed the 1-0 win over the Mavericks in the first-ever UNO soccer night game at Caniglia Field.
The Mavericks fell to 3-10-2 overall and 1-5 in The Summit League. The Jaguars moved to 5-9-4 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.
The teams played a scoreless first half with UNO earning a 5-3 shot advantage. However, the Jaguars put all three shots on goal, while UNO put one on frame. The Mavs did have a majority of the possession and were able to generate consistent attacks but without a quality finish. Meaghan Clark made an outstanding leaping save to tip a long Jaguar shot over the crossbar midway through.
After halftime, IUPUI broke the deadlock at the 51:41 mark. Sierra Bryant played a ball forward to Sarah Carlisle, who worked her way through the center of the box and fired a shot into the lower right corner for the 1-0 lead.
In the 76th minute, Lauren Lawler dribbled down the left side of the box and centered a perfect pass across the six-yard box, but two Mavs went for the ball and collided, resulting in no shot on goal.
IUPUI finished with an 11-8 shot advantage and 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Clark made six saves. Chelsi Rohloff had a team-high two shots, including one on frame.
Before the game, UNO paid tribute to its six seniors: Monica Bosiljevac, Jordyn Braun, Melanie McCormick, Sarah Nordstrom, Kerry Pivovar and Logen Watts. All six were in the Maverick starting lineup.
The Mavericks finish out the season on Sunday with a Noon game against Western Illinois at Caniglia Field.
