Late Run Lifts Mavs Past Mastodons, 60-50

Final Stats

OMAHA, Neb.
- Jamie Nash broke the UNO career assists record and the Mavs ended the game on an 11-0 run to top Fort Wayne, 60-50, at the Sapp Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks improved to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in The Summit League in winning their fourth straight home game. Fort Wayne dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Paige Frauendorfer had her fifth double-double of the season and second in a row - a season-high 23 points and 10 rebounds - to lead the Mavs, and Nash recorded seven assists to get to 475 for her career, one more than the previous record set by Jennifer Mitchell from 1998-2002.

IPFW's Amanda Hyde, the leading scorer in The Summit League entering the game, scored 20 points, but had just five in the second half.

The Mavs led by three at halftime, 28-25, and came out in the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 35-25 lead. But the Mastodons rallied immediately with a 19-5 run of their own to take a 44-40 lead with 10:23 left.

IPFW's Erin Murphy hit two free throws with 4:14 left to put the Mastodons up 50-49, but those would be the last points of the game for IPFW. Casse Vaughn put back a layup after an offensive rebound for a 51-50 lead with 3:53 left, and the Mavs never surrendered the lead.

Frauendorfer scored five straight points, three on free throws, to put the Mavs up 56-50 with 2:31 to play. UNO held firm on defense and forced the Mastodons into three turnovers and 0-for-6 shooting in the final four minutes. The Mavs went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to ice the win.

UNO shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, while IPFW finished 34.0 percent (17-of-50). The Mavs dominated the paint, 28-10, and bench scoring, 17-4. Carolyn Blair-Mobley added nine points, while Vaughn finished with eight. All eight Mavs who played hit at least one field goal.

The Mavs begin a four-game road swing next Thursday at IUPUI.
