Track Earns All-Academic Status

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Omaha Track and Field team was one of 171 teams nationwide to be named a Division I All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association today.

To earn the distinction, teams must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better.  The Mavericks carried a 3.39 GPA during the 2011-12 season, ranking sixth among UNO's teams.  It's the second straight year UNO has earned the honor.

Six of the Summit League's 10 teams in 2011-12 made the list including Fort Wayne, North Dakota State, Oakland, South Dakota and South Dakota State.  UNO and South Dakota ranked just behind South Dakota State which had the Summit League's best GPA among its women's track teams at 3.44.

Yesterday, multi-eventer Sami Spenner was named to the Division I All-Academic Team by the USFTCCCA.
