LINCOLN, Neb. - The UNO track and field team set six new personal bests at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday. The meet, added late to the Mavericks' schedule, is the final event of the season.
Amanda Vorthmann finished her outstanding season with a new personal best in the 1,500 meters, running a time of 4:37.53 to earn second. It was the first time she had run the race in two years. The mark is also a team season best.
Terri Armstrong picked up a PR in the 100 meters with a time of 12.28, good for sixth place. She also earned sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.08. The mark missed being a personal best because it was wind aided.
Amanda Alexander picked up three personal bests. She posted a time of 17.65 in the 100 meter hurdles, a long jump mark of 14-04 1/2 and a 94-03 toss in the javelin.
Jessica Ripp also had a PR in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.84.
Sami Spenner, competing unattached because she is redshirting the outdoor season, earned personal bests in all three events in which she competed. She was second in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11, a mark that would have broken her own school record but does not qualify because she was unattached. She also took second in the long jump with a mark of 19-07.
Spenner finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 124-06, almost four feet farther than her previous PR.
Due to UNO's reclassification to Division I, the Mavericks are not eligible for the Summit League or NCAA Championships, making this the last competition of the 2011-12 season.
