DES MOINES, Iowa -
Amanda Vorthmann reset her own school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in the final day of competition for the UNO track and field team at the Drake Relays.
Vorthmann set the new mark in the steeplechase for the second time this season, running a time of 10:44.10, more than seven seconds faster than her previous school record, a time of 10:51.20 set at the Bobby Lane Invitational at Texas-Arlington back in March. It was also a personal best. She finished in 12th place at Drake.
The race closed out a remarkable 2011-12 season for Vorthmann. In addition to setting the school record in the steeplechase twice, she also reset the school record in the 3,000 meters indoors in February.
The Mavericks had just two athletes competing on Saturday.
Kathie-Lee Laidley finished in fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 19-06 3/4 which she earned on the second jump of the day. It was her third-best leap of the season.
