INDIANOLA, Iowa –
Denneil Shaw earned her second straight win in the long jump as the UNO track and field team competed in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on Friday.
Shaw won the long jump with a mark of 18-01 ½, just off her personal best. Teammate
Jessica Ripp tied her PR with a mark of 16-03 ¼, good for eighth place.
Shaw also took second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-11. Ripp earned third in the event with a jump of 34-05.
The 5,000 meter race, the last of the day, brought a host of personal bests for the Mavericks.
Kristin Rogers ran a time of 18:26.26, beating her previous PR by almost nine seconds. She finished sixth. Fellow freshman Mikayla Peck took more than 14 seconds off her previous best with a time of 18:35.27, putting her just behind Rogers.
Nicole Behm fought off a tough wind to set a new personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:31.85, putting her in fourth place. She was almost nine seconds faster than her previous best.
In the 1,500 meters,
Ashley Kildow overcame a tough first lap to finish seventh with a time of 4:58.79, just a second off her personal best.
Freshman
Terri Armstrong finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.61. She also finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.50, a new personal best.
In the 100 hurdles,
Kathie-Lee Laidley earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 14.67.
In the 400 meters, freshman
Lauren Psota took fourth in a time of 59.54.
The Mavericks will finish the 2011-12 season on Saturday when
Amanda Vorthmann and
Kathie-Lee Laidley compete in the final day of competition at the Drake Relays.
