MACOMB, Ill.— The UNO women's tennis team kicked off its final week of the season with an outstanding win over future Summit League foe Western Illinois Monday afternoon, sweeping the Leathernecks 7-0. The victory was UNO's first over a fellow Division I opponent in program history.
 
In singles action, the Mavericks had a clean sweep of the match and did not drop one game for the afternoon. At No. 1 singles, freshman Alex Tran defeated Ashley Rettger, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Kelsie Olson bested Jessica Callahan at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Lindsay Weideman (No. 3), freshman Jacqueline Baude (No. 4) and seniors Heather Hottman (No. 5) and Caitlin Christy (No. 6) followed suit in the sweep, taking their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
 
The Mavericks continued the strong showing into doubles play, taking all three of the sets and dropping the only two games. At No. 1 Tran and fellow freshman Rachel Pierson registered a winning tally of 8-2, while Olson/Baude and Hottman/Christy swept their matches to seal the victory.
 
The Mavs are back in action on Tuesday, April 17, taking on Lindenwood at 4 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
