FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - The UNO softball team split its first two games with Utah Valley at the Great West Conference Cluster Friday night. The Mavs won game one 3-0 before falling 1-0 in the nightcap at Oran Good Park.
In game one, UNO (11-10, 1-1) had been no-hit by UVU's Tiffany Mills through the first five innings before scoring all three runs and gathering all three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Great West Conference Player of the Week
Katelyn Hinton had a two-run double, and
Mollie Jones had a pinch-hit RBI single to lift the Mavs.
Dana Elsasser (6-5), the reigning Great West Conference Pitcher of the Week, pitched a complete-game four-hitter while striking out nine and walking none.
In the nightcap, Utah Valley's Kylee Brinkerhoff hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lindsay Redding had two of the Mavs' three hits. Hinton also added a single.
Kat Barrow (4-4) took the loss, throwing a four-hitter. Barrow struck out four and walked four.
UNO is back in action on Saturday with two games against Houston Baptist, beginning at 3 p.m.
