LAKELAND, Fla. – The UNO baseball team extended its win streak to four games on Saturday, defeating Bradley 4-3 at Henley Field at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Mavericks are now 7-14 on the year and own a 4-1 tournament record, while Bradley is 10-6-1.
Senior
Brandon Winkelmann finished 1-for-3 with three runs driven in, while sophomore
Caleb Palensky accounted for the Mavs' other run with his solo home run. Freshman
Joe Mancuso also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Freshman
Cole Volkers (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits over 4.1 innings while striking out four. Stephen Toma took the loss, giving up one run over 4.2 innings of work.
UNO got on the board early, plating one run when Winkelmann was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. He then delivered a two-run double in the top of the third, scoring Palensky and freshman
Alex Mortensen to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Bradley came back for a pair of scores in the third to make it a one-run ballgame at 3-2.
Palensky's homer in the fifth then put the Mavericks ahead by two, and BU managed one more run in the seventh for the final score of 4-3.
Nebraska Omaha returns to action on Sunday, facing Jacksonville State at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CT) at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla., and live audio will be available on OMavs.com.
