TOPEKA, Kan. -- The UNO women's tennis team ended a six-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon, defeating former MIAA foe Washburn, 5-4.
The Mavericks opened the contest by taking two doubles matches. At No. 1, Washburn's Whitley Zitsch and Jamie Blackim took the No. 1 doubles win, 8-6, against freshmen
Alex Tran and
Rachel Pierson. The Mavericks then gained control, as senior
Kelsie Olson and freshman
Jacqueline Baude topped Sophie O'Neill and Casyn Buchman, 8-6. The No. 3 match saw senior
Heather Hottman and junior
Lindsay Weideman earn the final victory, 9-7, over Morgan Rainey and Annie Doole.
In No. 1 singles action, Tran was defeated by Rainey, 6-4, 6-1 (11-9). Olson dispatched Rainey in the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-3, 10-8, for the clinching point.
At No. 3, Weideman triumphed over Blackim with a score of 6-2, 6-3, 10-8, and Baude fought hard before falling to Castillo, 6-4, 6-1. Pierson defeated Casyn in a thrilling 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4, while senior
