OMAHA, Neb.  – The UNO women's tennis team dropped the first match of its busy three-day schedule, falling 6-1 to Northern Colorado Friday evening at Hanscom Tennis Center.
 
In doubles action, senior Kelsie Olson and freshman Alex Tran started off the match at No. 1 against the Bears, eventually falling to Stephanie Catlin and Elizabeth Tapia 8-1.
 
Despite a strong showing in the No. 2 spot, junior Lindsay Weideman and freshman Rachel Pierson dropped the set 8-4 to Jennifer Whateley and Adriana Nieto to give UNC the doubles point. At No. 3 doubles, senior Heather Hottman paired up with freshman Jacqueline Baude to pull off the first win of the night, defeating Chrissie Hoolahan and Jennifer Buchanan, 8-4.
 
In singles action, Tran had a strong showing at No. 1 trumping Jennifer Whately 6-1, 5-4 in the set, before retiring in the second set. Northern Colorado's Nieto controlled the match at No. 2 singles, taking over Olson, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Weideman fought hard at the No. 3 spot, pulling games in both sets before falling just short at 6-1, 6-2 to Tapia. Pierson started in the No. 4 spot against Buchanan, who earned the win by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
 
Baude competed at No. 5 singles but was defeated by Catlin, who took the win with a tally of 6-2, 6-2. In the final match of the evening, Christy dropped both matches 6-0, 6-0 to Hoolahan.
    
Nebraska Omaha travels to Topeka, Kan., on Saturday and Sunday to finish off the weekend by facing former MIAA foes Washburn and Southwest Baptist.  Both matches are slated to start at 10 a.m.
