Mavericks Make it Four Straight at Rebel Spring Ga

UNO 3, Army 1
UNO 3, Rider 0

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The UNO softball team picked up its third and fourth wins in a row with a pair of victories at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday.

UNO started the day by defeating Army 3-1 and finished by avenging a loss to Rider earlier this week, as the Mavs beat the Broncs 3-0. UNO is now 8-8 overall and 4-2 at the tournament with two games remaining.

UNO 3, Army 1
Dana Elsasser allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out seven in the win. The Mavs fell down 1-0 in the second inning but rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the win.

UNO's rally started with a Katelyn Hinton double to lead off the sixth. Amber Lutmer drew a walk, then two Mavs popped up. Mollie Jones stepped in to pinch hit and walked, loading the bases for Lindsay Redding. Redding's infield single scored Hinton to tie the game. Tonya Peterson then delivered the game-winning hit, a two-run single to left field that scored Lutmer and Jones.

Elsasser closed out the game by retiring Army in order in the top of the seventh. Six different batters accounted for the Mavs' six hits in the game.

UNO 3, Rider 0
Ashton Hughes picked up UNO's second shutout of the season and second in as many days with the best performance of her career so far. The junior college transfer struck out four and gave up just two hits and one walk in her first career shutout and complete game.

UNO scored twice in the second inning and once in the sixth. In the second inning, Ashley Lynch singled with the bases loaded to score Redding and Emma Wright.

In the sixth, Lutmer led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Lindsay Gilliland. Negrete sacrifice bunted Gilliland to second, and Mollie Jones stepped in as a pinch hitter and singled to right field for her first career RBI.

Redding finished 2-for-3, and five other Mavs had one hit.

UNO concludes play at the tournament with a pair of games on Thursday. UNO faces Bucknell at 8 a.m. CT and then finishes with Columbia at 12 p.m. CT. Live stats should be available for both games at the links below.
