LINCOLN, Neb. –
Amanda Vorthmann set a new school record in the 3,000 meters, one of eight personal bests for UNO track and field team at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday at the Devaney Center.
Vorthmann took second in the event with a time of 9:50.04, less than two seconds behind winner Katie White of Nebraska. The time was more than 10 seconds faster than the previous school record of 10:00.78 set by Tara Biltoft in 1997. Vorthmann's time would rank third-best in the Summit League.
Teammate
Kayla Fenske also set a new personal best in the event with a time of 11:22.06.
Also in the distances,
Kristin Rogers (18:38.73) and Mikayla Peck (18:50.40) set personal bests in the 5,000 meters while finishing sixth and seventh respectively.
In the shorter distances,
Terri Armstrong had a PR in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.01, good for eighth place. She took sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.58.
In the 400 meters,
Lauren Psota reset her personal best with a time of 58.84.
Lydia Martin posted a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:24.61, almost four seconds faster than her previous best.
Nicole Behm took second in the 1,000 meters, just missing a new personal best with a time of 3:10.28.
The parade of personal bests continued at the John Dalton Invitational at South Dakota where the Mavericks sent several athletes. The Mavericks also picked up a couple of firsts.
Sami Spenner won the long jump with a mark of 19-2 ¾, just edging out teammate
Kathie-Lee Laidley who was second with a personal best jump of 19-1 ½.
The two switched places in the high jump where Laidley won with a leap of 5-8. Spenner was second with a personal best mark of 5-6.
Spenner was busy at South Dakota. She took second in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 40-8 ¼, nearly a full eight inches better that her previous best. Teammate
Denneil Shaw finished third with a personal best mark of 37-4 ½.
Spenner also took third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.15.
The other PR of the day belonged to
Jessica Ripp who had a time of 8.40 in the 60 meter dash.
Because they are not eligible to compete in conference or national championship meets, the Mavericks will have a month off until beginning the outdoor season at the Emporia State Twilight meet on March 17.
