INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The IUPUI Jaguars jumped out in front of the UNO women's soccer team with two goals in the first 20 minutes and held on for a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Mavs to 3-13 overall and 3-3 in The Summit League. IUPUI improved to 3-12-2 and 1-3-2 in conference play. Omaha is tied for fourth place with nine points.
IUPUI started the scoring in the 11th minute when Taylor Heidorn scored a rebound from 12 yards out. In the 19th minute, Kalli Shepler-Tucker doubled the lead when she collected a loose ball in the box and walked it into the net.
The Mavs made a game of it in the 73rd minute when
Anna Sibson scored the first goal of her career off of an assist from
Layla Ashouri. Sibson's shot from 14 yards out found the back of the net and gave UNO hope of tying the match in the final stages.
But aside from a corner kick in the 85th minute, the Mavericks were unable to threaten the Jaguar net the rest of the way.
Meaghan Clark made seven saves in the defeat. IUPUI outshot UNO 15-8 overall and 9-6 in shots on goal.
UNO wraps up its season with two home games next weekend. On Friday, the Mavs host South Dakota State at the UNO Soccer Field at 3 p.m. On Sunday, UNO hosts North Dakota State on Senior Day at 2:15 p.m.
