Spenner Earns Second at UNI

Pentathlon Results

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Junior Sami Spenner posted the third-best pentathlon score in UNO history on her way to a second-place finish on the first day of competition on the Jack Jennett Invitational at Northern Iowa.

Spenner posted a score of 3,810 over five events.  That puts her behind only former national champion Anastasia Kyvelidou and Shannon Moore in school history.  In the process, Spenner finished less than 200 points behind Northern Iowa's Olimpia Nowak who finished in the top 15 in Division I in the event last season.

Spenner tied or set three personal bests during competition on Friday.  She tied her personal best in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.10, a time she also achieved just last week at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational.

She also had a personal best in the high jump with a mark of 5-05, two inches better than her previous personal best.  She also had a career best mark in the long jump with a leap of 19-03 1/2.  That mark was more than eight inches better than her previous best.

The native of Columbus, Neb. also posted the fourth-best mark of the day in the shot put with a mark of 31-07 1/2.  She finished the competition with a time of 2:21.23 in the 800 meters, a time that also put her fourth in the event.

The individual events continue on Saturday at 11 a.m.
