LINCOLN, Neb. – The UNO track and field team got three individual wins and a host of personal bests on a busy day of action at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitation on Friday.
Sami Spenner topped her previous personal best in the long jump with a mark of 18-7 ¼ to win the event. She set the old mark of 18-4 ½ in December at Iowa State.
Kathie-Lee Laidley took first in the high jump with a leap of 5-7. It was her first time competing in the event this year. She holds the school record at 5-10.
In other field event action,
Denneil Shaw earned a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 36-5 ½ to take third place in the event.
Amanda Vorthmann took first in the mile with a time of 5:07.99 and also picked up a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:21.65. The 3K time was a little more than two seconds off her personal best set at Iowa State in December.
Freshman
Kristin Rogers set a new PR in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:58.35, good for seventh place.
Spenner also had a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.10, putting her in fifth place, just ahead of Laidley who ran the race for the first time in 9.19.
Freshman
Lauren Psota topped her previous personal best in the 400 meter with a time of 59.16, good for fifth place. She finished just behind teammate
Terri Armstrong in the 200 meters with times of 26.41 and 26.51 respectively.
The Mavericks will next head to the Jack Jennett Invitational at Northern Iowa on Jan. 27 and 28.
