OMAHA, Neb. - UNO triple jumper
Nkeiruka Domike capped off a national championship season by being named the
Omaha World-Herald's Midlands College female athlete of the year.
Domike earned her second straight national champion and All-American honors in the triple jump indoors this past winter. She posted the best triple jump mark indoors or outdoors in NCAA Division II history with a jump of 45-1 3/4 at Arkansas' Tyson Invitational on Feb. 12. Her only loss all year was to the eventual Division I national champion in that meet. The jump was a UNO school record.
Domike won the national championship with a meet-record leap of 43-11 3/4 on March 12 to help the Mavericks to a fifth-place overall finish. She repeated as the MIAA triple jump champ as well with a winning jump of 43-8, a conference and Central Missouri fieldhouse record. She also won the long jump with a mark of 19-5 1/4, making her a two-time All-MIAA selection.
The native of Rivers-State, Nigeria was a three-time MIAA Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Week selection during the indoor season.
