KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The fifth-seeded UNO women's tennis team saw its run at the MIAA Tournament cut short on Friday, falling 5-0 to No. 4 seed Northwest Missouri State at Hilltop Racquet Club. The Mavericks are now 8-9 (5-3 MIAA) on the year, while the Bearcats improved to 12-12 (6-2 MIAA).
Rainy conditions on Thursday forced the tournament matches to various venues around the Kansas City area, and UNO's quarterfinal match was postponed after starting Thursday evening.
In No. 1 singles, NWMSU's Erika Leston defeated junior
Traci Moklestad, 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 2 line, junior
Kelsie Olson was bested by Alexis Bartek, 6-2, 6-3.
On the doubles side, Leston and Leslee Feldhaus earned an 8-6 win at No. 1, followed by an 8-3 victory by Bartek and Emily Hoffman over juniors
Heather Hottman and
Samantha Thomas. The final match at No. 3 resulted in an 8-4 score by Sureena Weir and Alison Wulff against junior
