OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO women's tennis team saw its three-match win streak snapped on Tuesday, dropping a 6-3 loss to Nebraska-Kearney.
In doubles action, juniors Traci Moklestad and Kelsie Olson fell short in an 8-2 loss to UNK's Vanessa Gunawan and Cassie Shaw. At the No. 2 line, juniors Heather Hottman and Samantha Thomas defeated Candace Green and Nickola Messbarger, 8-6. In No. 3 doubles, freshman Jessica Hottman and junior Caitlin Christy lost their match 8-1 to Jamie Wells and Melissa Lyster.
On the singles side, the Lopers came out swinging, posting four more wins. Moklestad lost at number 1 singles to Gunawan, 6-0, 6-2, while Olson was bested by Shaw, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Britni Norfolk defeated Thomas, 6-1, 6-4. The sister duo of Heather Hottman and Jessica Hottman defeated their opponents Messbarger and Heather Connolly, respectively, with scores of 6-2, 7-5. At the No. 6 position, Christy lost her match, 6-3, 6-2.
UNO returns to the court on Thursday, April 14 to compete against Emporia State. The match is slated for 2 p.m. at Hanscom Park Tennis Center.
