OMAHA, Neb. - The 21st-ranked UNO softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Wayne State (Neb.) on Wednesday, 2-0, 3-1, at Claussen-Westgate Field.

The games were moved from Tuesday to Wednesday because of inclement field conditions on Tuesday. The Mavs, now 25-5, have won seven in a row and 15 of their last 16. The Wildcats fell to 12-9.

In the first game, two-time MIAA Pitcher of the Week #Beth Haley# turned in another stellar outing, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout. Haley struck out three in improving to 10-3 this season. #Lauren Larson connected on a two-run homer to right field in the first inning that scored Molly Feichtinger# and gave Haley all the run support she needed.

The home run was the sixth of the year for Larson. Feichtinger went 3-for-3.

In the second game of the twinbill, Wayne State got on the board first in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Dani Sandel. UNO had an answer in the bottom of the fourth, as #Lindsey Slocum singled up the middle to score pinch-runner Jamie Nash from third. Amber Lutmer# then doubled to the warning track in left field to score Slocum from third.

The Mavericks added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Slocum that scored Larson, who had reached on a lead-off single. Slocum, Larson and Lutmer each finished the game with two hits.

#Dana Elsasser# - who started the game in the circle and went 4.2 innings, allowing one run - picked up the win. Slocum replaced Elsasser in the fifth with the 2-1 lead and picked up the save after 2.1 perfect innings with five strikeouts.

UNO goes on the road to face Missouri Southern in a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m., and Pittsburg State on Saturday at Noon.
