Washburn Sweeps Mavericks in MIAA Opener, 9-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Washburn men's tennis team swept the UNO Mavericks late Friday night, 9-0, at the Hanscom Tennis Center.

Washburn won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in dropping UNO to 5-4 on the year and 0-1 in the MIAA.

UNO's #Ben Williams and Decature Banker# put up the most competitive fight in a 9-8 loss to Steven Fletcher and Samir Haikil at No. 3 singles.

Arkadiusz Kozaczuk defeated #Drew Mercier# at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Matt Leffler knocked off #Matt Frost#, 6-4, 6-0. Fletcher won in straight sets at No. 3 singles over #Eric McKnight#, 6-1, 6-1.

Pascal Laucht defeated #Brandon Otoski#, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. Bobby Florence beat #Andrew Lescelius#, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5, and Haikil wrapped up the sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over #John Wrobel# in the final spot.

The Mavericks host Union College (Ky.) at 11:30 a.m., at Hanscom Tennis Center on Tuesday.
