-- The UNO women's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Saturday, stunning the No. 6 Washburn Lady Blues, 87-83, at the Sapp Fieldhouse.

#Heather Pohl# scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Mavs in the upset, and #Jamie Nash# had a double-double with career-bests of 23 points and 11 assists and zero turnovers. The Mavs turned the ball over a season-low six times, while forcing the Lady Blues into 20 turnovers, six more than their season average.

UNO improved to 6-10 on the year, 3-9 in the MIAA. The loss was just the second of the year for Washburn both overall and in conference play, as they dropped to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in the MIAA.

The win marked UNO's first win over a top-10 opponent since Feb. 7, 2009, when the Mavs upset No. 4 Emporia State at the Sapp Fieldhouse, 78-72. It also gave Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer her 100th win as the head coach at UNO.

UNO trailed by four at halftime, 49-45, but took its first lead of the second half with a Nash free throw at the 16:02 mark to make it 56-55. The Mavs gradually extended the lead to six, 64-58, with 10:49 left on a jumper by Pohl.

The Mavs moved out to their biggest lead of the half at 12 points, 77-65, with 6:25 to play on two free throws by Pohl. But the Lady Blues put pressure on the Mavs with a 10-2 run to get within four at 79-75 with 2:20 remaining.

Nash came up with a huge driving bucket in the lane for the Mavs with 1:13 left to put UNO up 81-75. Washburn then hit two free throws, but #Paige Frauendorfer# answered with two free throws, then deflected a pass on the defensive end that #Jordan Spencer# recovered for UNO.

After a UNO turnover on the following possession, Lombardino scored down low to pull within 83-79. Frauendorfer hit a free throw, but Washburn's Megan Lassley drove for a layup with 15 seconds left to cut the lead to 84-81, UNO. Frauendorfer and Nash combined for three free throws the rest of the way to ice the win.

The Mavs and Lady Blues were in a slugfest in the first half as well. There were just 21 combined rebounds in the first half, as Washburn shot 63.8 percent from the field and UNO shot 60.7 percent. The Lady Blues made 53.8 percent of their shots (7-of-13) from behind the arc in the first half, while the Mavericks connected on 46.2 percent (6-of-13).

For the game, UNO shot 49.1 percent, while Washburn hit on 51.8 percent.

#Jessica Zaruba# added 16 points for UNO, 14 coming in the first half, and Frauendorfer finished with 12. Pohl made 5-of-11 3-pointers in tallying her career high of 29.

UNO hosts Fort Hays State on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
