OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO Maverick women's tennis team picked up its third straight victory Saturday afternoon at Hanscom Park Tennis Center as they downed the Tigers of Fort Hays State, 6-0. The Mavs clinched after the three remaining singles matches were not played due limited courts. The win moves the Mavericks to 2-0 in MIAA play and 6-3 overall. The defeat is Fort Hays State's second MIAA loss in two days as their record now stands at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.
In singles action,
Traci Moklestad improved her win total with a victory over Laura Johnson of FHSU in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Kelsie Olson continues to lead the squad in overall singles victories (10) after she took care of business against Kelsey Bigando, 6-0, 6-1. The matches for
Heather Hottman,
Kelsey Haas and
Mary Lausten went unfinished.
However,
Kelsey Haas was able to see action in No. 1 doubles when she and her partner,
Traci Moklestad, defeated the Tigers' pairing, 8-2.
Kelsie Olson and
Mary Lausten made it a flawless day for the Mavs in the doubles competition when they defeated Brianna Watkins and Kayla Jarvis of Fort Hays State, 8-1.
The win is the Mavs' third sweep of the season. The women's tennis team is back in action next weekend as they travel to Bolivar, Missouri to play MIAA opponent Southwest Baptist on Saturday, April 3.
