WAYNE, Neb. - #
Julia Krejci# went 4 for 4 with four RBI in the opener and then the Mavericks were held to just four hits in the night cap Wednesday as they split a doubleheader at Wayne State (Neb.).
Nebraska-Omaha (14-7) won the first game, 7-2 and then was shut out in the second game, 3-0. No. 25 Wayne State moved its record to 14-3.
Krecji hit two home runs in the first game. She hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to get UNO on the scoreboard and then she hit a three-run blast in the seventh.
#
Lindsey Slocum# followed Krejci's fourth-inning homer with a solo shot of her own. The Wildcats then tied the score in the bottom of the fifth before #
Kristin Wellwood# hit a two-run home run in the sixth to put the Mavs up, 4-2. Krejci's blast in the seventh, the fourth of the game for UNO, provided plenty of insurance.
#
Beth Haley# improved her record to 4-1 with a complete-game win. She allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out eight.
Four different Mavericks got hits in the second game with Slocum getting a double.
#
Melissa Negrete# gave up three hard-luck runs in 3 1/3 innings, just one of them earned. The Wildcats scored twice in the first inning off an error and an RBI groundout. They scored one more in the fourth inning off another error.
Slocum then took over in the circle for the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit, but the Maverick offense mustered just one hit of its own while she pitched.
The Mavericks will open the MIAA portion of the season and play their first home games as they host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. Friday they host Pittsburg State at 12 p.m. and Saturday they host Missouri Southern at 1 p.m.
