OMAHA, Neb. - The Nebraska-Omaha women's tennis team got back in the win column on Friday night as they defeated the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney, 6-3. The highly competitive match at Hanscom Park Tennis Center saw the Mavs improve to 4-3 on the young season while the Lopers dropped to 2-4.
The No. 1 doubles team comprised of
Traci Moklestad and
Kelsey Haas fell in a close one to UNK's pairing, 8-6. The tight matches continued when
Heather Hottman and
Samantha Thomas won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. This victory moves the double pairing's record to 8-6 overall, good for the most wins on the team in doubles competition.
It was a slow start for the Mavs in the singles competition as
Traci Moklestad fell in No. 1 singles to Kristen Messbarger, 6-1, 6-3. However, sophomore
Mary Lausten iced the victory for the Mavs when she defeated Melissa Lyster of UNK, 6-3, 6-3. The win gives
Mary Lausten her eighth of the season, moving her overall record to 8-4.
Heather Hottman improved her overall to 5-8 as she won at No. 4 singles too, 7-6, 6-0.
UNO looks to build a winning streak when they take on MIAA rival Missouri Western State University in their next match on March 23 at 10 a.m.
