EMPORIA, Kan. - #Andrew Bridger and Tyler Bullock# each scored 22 points as the Mavericks won, 94-88 at Emporia State Saturday night. Nebraska-Omaha shot 55 percent in the second half to outscore the Hornets by six after a tie at halftime.
The Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 15-6 overall and 8-5 in the MIAA. The Hornets fell to 9-13 overall and 5-10 in the league.
Bridger was 7 for 10 from the field and Bullock hit six field goals and went 10 of 13 from the free throw line. He also had a season-high eight assists.
There were 12 ties and 11 lead changes in the game. ESU led for most of the first half until four straight points from #Matthew Starks# gave UNO a 36-33 lead with 5:21 to go. The two teams went into the locker room tied at 40.
There were then five ties in the first six minutes of the second half before UNO took the lead for good. Five straight fastbreak points from Bridger gave UNO a five-point lead and then the Mavs built it as high as eight the rest of the way as they fought off the Hornets.
ESU got within four with a layup from Jordan Stout with 50 second remaining. #Jeff Martin# then hit a pair of free throws to push the lead back to six.
Martin hit three 3-pointers for the Mavs for 13 points and #Torrian Harris was 5 of 10 from the field for 11 points off the bench. Harris and Matt Newman# led UNO with six rebounds each.
Overall, UNO shot 51 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line. The Mavs won the rebound battle, 36-31 and committed nine turnovers while ESU had just 10.
The Hornets shot 48 percent and were led by Lamar Wilbern with 31 points.
