Mavericks Can't Hold on to First Half Lead in Loss

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Mavericks couldn't overcome a strong shooting performance from the Jennies in the second half as they fell, 60-57 at Central Missouri Wednesday night.

#Alyssa Green went 8 for 15 from the field for 22 points and she just missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. Heather Pohl# was 4 for 8 from the field for nine points.

The Mavericks, who led for most of the game, trailed the final seven minutes of the game.

At the one-minute mark Green made a three-point play that brought the Mavs within two. Central Missouri then scored four straight to go up by six with 18 seconds remaining.

After a missed basket by UNO, the Jennies had a chance to put the game away at the free throw line. Danielle Shows missed a pair with nine seconds left and Green hit a 3-pointer on the other end but only two seconds remained on the clock.

The Mavericks shot 36 percent in the game from the field and 44 percent from long range. They went to the free throw line just eight times and made six of the attempts.

The Jennies shot 54 percent in the second half to end the night shooting 43 percent. They made just 12 of 21 free throw attempts for a 57 percent effort.

Pohl hit a 3-pointer on UNO's first possession of the night and the Mavs held the lead in the first half for all but four minutes near the midway point.

Green hit a basket off a steal with 1:02 left in the first period to put UNO up by 10. Central Missouri's Kara Fleming then scored six straight points to end the half and make UNO's lead, 28-24 at halftime.

The Mavs retained the lead for the first half of the second period but never pushed it past seven.

Deidra Dace made a pair of free throws for the Jennies with at the 11:09 mark to tie the score for the first time since the beginning  and then, after the teams traded buckets, the Jennies took over for good with an 8-0 run that put them up, 52-44 with 7:04 to play.

Rebecca Roberts and Fleming led UCM with 18 points each and Shows had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
