ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Mavericks overcame a six-point halftime deficit and then fought off the Griffons down the stretch in a 58-55 win at Missouri Western Wednesday night.

Jessica Zaruba# hit three second half 3-pointers and finished with 10 points. She just missed a double-double as she pulled in eight rebounds in the game.

Alyssa Green# led the Mavs (12-10, 7-8 MIAA) with 16 points with a 7-for-12 performance from the field and #
Heather Pohl# hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
The Mavericks shot 35 percent in the game and 33 percent from 3-point range while the Griffons were 36 percent from the field and 20 percent from long range. UNO won the rebound battle, 43-36.
The win distance the Mavs from the Griffons (7-16, 5-11), who were just one win behind UNO in the standings when the night began. UNO moved into a three-way tie for sixth with the win.
The Griffons extended their halftime lead to nine before Zaruba made her first field goal of the game, a 3-pointer at 15:10. #
Kylee Rinehart# then hit a jumper, one of two baskets for her, to pull UNO within four.
The Griffons then went back up by eight before Pohl and Zaruba hit back-to-back 3s for UNO to kick start a 13-0 run that put the Mavs up by five. A steal by Rinehart during that run and then a layup from #
Autralius Sanders# gave the Mavs their first lead of the half, 41-40 at the 10:08 mark.
The two teams battled each other after that. MWSU scored five straight points to tie the score at the 7:53 mark. The Griffons tied the score again on a layup by Jessica Koch and then another by Brittany Casady gave them a brief lead, 51-49 with 2:57 to play.

Ashley Nelson#, who scored all seven of her points in the second half, hit a layup to tie the score and then her defensive rebound on the next Missouri Western possession set up a basket by Green that gave the Mavs the lead for good.
Zaruba's final 3 of the game put UNO up by five with 1:17 to play. The Griffons got within one by a layup from Koch with 20 seconds to play and then Green hit a pair of free throws for UNO. The Griffons then missed two shot attempts on their final possession.
Koch led the Griffons with 19 points and she had eight rebounds.
Green moved to eighth all-time in career scoring at UNO, now with 1,322 in her four year. Four four assists on the night, she moved into a tie for fifth all-time at UNO, now with 329 to match Stacie Kaiser (1993-97).
The Mavericks will return to action Saturday at Sapp Fieldhouse against Truman at 1:30 p.m. The game with be a
