OMAHA, Neb. – Junior forward Hilary Horvatic led the UNO womens soccer team to their fifth win of the season on Thursday, downing Emporia State 3-1 at the UNO Soccer Field.
In the 13th minute, Horvatic booted her second goal of the season. She converted the rebound of a shot by #Jordyn Braun# that resulted from a corner kick by #Hayley Renshaw#.
Horvatic's second goal of the game came less than three minutes later on a Renshaw lead pass for a breakaway goal at 16:25. The assist was Renshaw's team-leading fourth of the season.
Freshman midfielder #Monica Bosiljevac added her third goal of the season on a cross pass from Megan Kingston# just 48 seconds into the second half.
Emporia's lone score came at 78:34 on an unassisted shot by Kylee McCullough, beating #Katelyn Tschida# to the upper right corner.
Tschida relieved #Lauren Fox# after the first half. Fox earned the win without facing a shot in the first 45:00 minutes of play.
As a team, the Mavericks outshot the Hornets 15-2. Goalkeeper Nikki Schmitz had 12 saves in 90:00 minutes for Emporia.
UNO improves to 5-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the MIAA. The Hornets fall to 0-8-2 and 0-7-1 in MIAA action.
UNO will next play Missouri Western State on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo.
