Ashley Nelson had a double-double and Alyssa Green# topped 20 points for the first time all year as Nebraska-Omaha won, 58-44 at Truman Wednesday evening. The Mavericks improved to 8-5 overall and evened their record in the MIAA at 3-3.
Nelson went 8-of-17 from the field for 17 points and she added a team-high 11 rebounds. Green was 8-for-15 from the field for 21 points. She also added three assists and a season-high seven steals.
The Mavericks made their first 11 free throws and they finished the night 12-of-13 (.923) from the line. They were 38 percent from the field while the Bulldogs were 34 percent. UNO won the rebound battle, 39-32.
The Bulldogs scored the first two points of the game and that ended up being their only lead of the night. UNO then went on a 16-2 run after that over the next 10 minutes. TSU cut that lead down to seven late in the half, but a lay-up by Nelson gave UNO a 28-19 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 5-0 run to get to within four. UNO answered that with an 11-0 run to push the lead to 15 at the 14:45 mark.The Mavs were 5-of-6 during that streak. Truman only got as close as 11 after that.
Laura Joya came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with 12 points. She was 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
