Mavs Can't Rebound From Quick Tiger Run in Loss at

HAYS, Kan. - #Heather Pohl# tied a career-high with 22 points and just missed a double-double but the Mavs gave up 14 of the first 16 points in a 76-66 loss at Fort Hays State in Gross Memorial Coliseum Wednesday night.

Nebraska-Omaha fell to 10-9 overall and 5-7 in the MIAA while the Tigers improved to 14-4 overall and 7-4 in the conference.

Pohl went 9 for 12 from the free throw line but she was the only Maverick to make more than one free throw. The rest of the team shot 3 of 12 from the line and overall, UNO shot 50 percent from the line. FHSU shot 82 percent.

#Jamie Nash scored 13 points for UNO and Alyssa Green# added 12. Pohl just missed her first double-double with a team-high nine rebounds.

The Mavericks fell behind 7-0 and then 14-2 in the first five minutes. They turned the ball over three times in that stretch and missed four lay-ups. UNO climbed within six points two minutes later thanks to four straight Maverick points by #Paige Frauendorfer# and then a lay-up by Nash.

The Tigers answered with an 11-1 run to go up by 16 with eight minutes left in the half and then went into the locker room with a 36-24 lead.

UNO got within eight within the first six minutes of the second half but the Tigers rebounded and kept the lead in the teens for most of the half.

A pair of free throws by Pohl at 2:12 cut the lead to nine but that was the closest the Mavs got the rest of the way.

The Mavs ended the game with 15 turnovers while FHSU had 20. UNO had an 11-7 advantage in steals with Nash leading with seven. She also led the team with four assists.

Naomi Bancroft led the Tigers with 19 points but she could have scored much more. She was 4 of 25 from the field and 2 of 18 from 3-point range.

Overall, the Mavs shot 32 percent from the field while FHSU was 39 percent.
