DENVER, Colo. - The University of Nebraska-Omaha soccer team dropped its season-opener 3-1 to third-ranked Metro State Saturday at Auraria Field.

The Roadrunners (1-0) opened with a pair of goals in the first period. Jen Thomas scored at 11:17 to give Metro State a 1-0 lead. Ashley Nemmers added a goal at 25:54 and in the second half Thomas netted another goal in the 61st minute.

Lindsey Nealon put UNO (0-1) on the board with an unassisted goal at 70:29 but it wasn't enough.

The Roadrunners out shot the Mavericks 18-5 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Hilary Horvatic led UNO with two shots. UNO netminders Elizabeth Odorisio and Lauren Fox each played a half for UNO. Fox led with three saves.

The Mavericks will be back in action again Sunday against Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m. CT.
