Pair of 2nd Inning Blasts Enough to Get Mavs to Re

Box Score

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Mavericks used a four-run second inning to top Emporia State, 5-3 Saturday night to advance to the NCAA South Central Region championship.

The Mavericks (45-16) will now take on host school Angelo State Sunday at 1 p.m. and they must beat the Rambelles twice to advance to the super regional, played next week.

The Mavs had a four-run second inning to break a 1-1 tie and take the lead for good. Julia Krejci hit a solo home run off the top of the scoreboard over the center field fence and Katelyn Hinton hit a two-run shot to left field. Treightin Yates then singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Slocum.

The Hornets got two of those runs back when Jill Peters hit a two-run home run to right center, the fourth homer of the game for both teams.

Slocum went the distance in the circle and improved to 15-3 on the year. She struck out five and gave up six hits and a walk.

Yates went 2 for 2 and scored twice.
