MARYVILLE, Mo. -
Emma Wright hit her first career home run to make the difference in a 2-1 win at Northwest Missouri in the opener of a doubleheader and then the Mavericks had eight hits in an 11-1 win in the night cap as they swept the Bearcats Tuesday afternoon.
No. 22 Nebraska-Omaha improved to 28-7 and 4-2 in the MIAA and will return home to host Upper Iowa Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Claussen-Westgate Field.
Wright drove in
Chelsea Koch, who singled up the middle, with a home run to left center in the second inning of game one. It was her first long ball of the year and just her third hit in her freshman season. That was UNO's only offense of the game but it was enough as
Melissa Negrete pitched a four-hit complete game. She allowed four hits and struck out eight.
The Bearcats scored their run in the bottom of the seventh when Negrete gave up a pair of two-out doubles but she got the final batter to line out to second to end the game.
In the second game
Amanda Bader hit a three-run homer in the first and
Treightin Yates had a three-run shot in the third. The Mavs also added two runs in the fifth when Koch doubled and Wright walked and they both later scored on a double to left field by
Ashley Lynch.
Koch was 3 for 3 in the game and Bader was 2 for 3 with the three RBI.
Lindsey Slocum pitched the entire game and remained perfect on the year with an 8-0 record. She allowed one run off five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
