OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team overcame tepid three-point shooting to beat the Missouri Western Griffons, 60-51 on Wednesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.  #Cayla Hargrove# led the Mavericks with 16 points.

UNO improves to 11-10 on the season and 7-8 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Fresh off their upset win against then fourth-ranked Emporia State last Saturday, the Mavericks started sluggishly against a Missouri Western team that came into the game with four wins.  The Griffons' Jessica Koch hit a three to make it 13-4 with five minutes gone in the first half.  

The Mavericks closed the gap to one thanks to a 8-0 run capped by a Hargrove jumper.

From there, UNO battled to stay close, just once taking the lead on a jumper by #Katie Kane# that made it 21-20.  Missouri Western went into the half leading 29-28.  UNO was 0-for-10 from three-point range in the first half.

The Griffons continued to frustrate the Mavericks in the second half, but they couldn't stretch their lead beyond four.

The Mavericks broke a 46-all tie when #Ashley Nelson# hit a jumper with 5:59 to go in the game and never trailed again.  #Alyssa Green# helped nail down the win with 15 points, all in the second half.  She scored nine of those points after the Mavs had taken the lead.

#Amanda Brodsack# finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, just one off the team-season high.  Both Rachel Luteyn and Tierra Ford had ten points for Missouri Western which falls to 4-18 on the year and 4-12 in the MIAA.

The Mavericks finish the week on the road when they visit the Truman State Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
