Alyssa Green was the only Maverick to reach double figures as she scored 10 points in a 68-47 loss to No. 15 Washburn in both teams' Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.
Nebraska-Omaha fell to 3-3 and will continue conference action Saturday at 4 p.m. against Fort Hays State at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Lady Blues improved to 6-0.
Both teams shot poorly throughout the game from the field. UNO shot just 29 percent while Washburn shot 35 percent. The Mavericks were 0-for-12 from 3-point range but shot 75 percent (9-for-12) from the free throw line.
Green was 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from the line.
Jamie Nash and
Paige Frauendorfer added eight points.
Heather Pohl led UNO with seven rebounds and Nash led with three assists.
The Mavericks scored the first points of the game off a lay-up by Green but the never led again. The Lady Blues' lead stayed in single-figures until the 7:37 mark when Hope Gregory hit a 3-pointer. That basket was part of a 10-0 run that eventually made the score 29-12, Washburn.
The Mavs were down by 19 at halftime and after Gregory hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, they never got within 20 of WU.
Rose Hammond led Washburn with 14 points and Gregory added 11. She had 10 rebounds for a double-double.
