Jeff Martin# hit a pair of 3-pointers late in the game that helped turn a one-point game with five minutes remaining into an 83-73 win for the Mavericks over Nebraska-Kearney Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks improved to 9-1 as they evened the all-time series against UNK, 29-29-1 as the two met for the 45th straight season. The game was played in front of a season-high 1,136 fans.

Matt Newman and Eugene Bain each had double-doubles for the Mavericks as they each recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Bullock# led the team with 22 points, Martin had 15 and #

Martin went 4-for-6 from 3-point range and as a team, UNO shot 47 percent from long distance. The Mavs were 43 percent overall from the field while the Lopers were 40 percent.
Josiah Parker, who led UNK with 26 points off an 11-of 17 performance, gave the Lopers a 64-63 lead with a rebound and tip-in at the 6:17 mark of the second half. Chris Deans then hit a 3-pointer to put them up by four.
Bridger answered with two free throws at 5:35 and then Martin hit a 3 at the 5:19 mark that put the Mavs up, 68-67. He hit another at 3:48 that started a 9-0 run that put UNO up by 10. UNK climbed to within six points in the final minute but the Mavs made four of five free throws after that to hold the double-digit advantage.
The Mavericks also had a 10-point lead late in the first half. The Lopers ate away at that and trailed by five at halftime, 39-34. They took the lead briefly early in the second half and then the Mavs held the advantage until Parker's tip-in.
Bridger and Bullock led UNO with four assists each and Bridger added four steals.
UNO won the rebound battle against UNK, 51-37 but the Lopers blocked five shots to UNO's one.
