Alyssa Green's third free throw Sunday afternoon was her 1,000th career point at UNO and she ended up scoring 12 in the Mavericks' 88-54 win over Dana in their season-opener at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Heather Pohl led Nebraska-Omaha with 22 points off a 9-of-14 performance from the field.
Jamie Nash came off the bench to score 14 points with a game-high six assists and
Kiley Herold also scored in double figures with 12 points off the bench.
Kylee Rinehart led the Mavs with 10 rebounds as she played her first game in two years after missing last year with an injury.
The Mavericks shot 49 percent in the game while Dane (0-7) shot 30 percent. UNO held a 44-37 advantage on rebounds.
There were three lead changes in the first half before the Mavericks took control at the 8:55 mark. Green hit two free throws to put the Mavericks up, 21-19 and they held the lead the rest of the game.
They built it to 10 and then 11 points on two more free throws in the final minute of the half by Green and then they held at least a double-digit lead the entire second half.
The Vikings led by five, 11-6 four minutes into the game. UNO tied the score at 13-13 and then 17-17 before Dana took one more lead at the 9:18 mark. Pohl's lay-up tied it and then Green's free throws put the Mavs up for good.
Green ended the day 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She had four assists and three steals. She now has 1,009 points in her fourth season to put her 21st in school history.
